The Fastest Way to Get Rid of Pain

So I have two words for you today: PAIN and MASSAGE.

Recently I have been having hip pain, and after going to a physical therapist for over a month, I finally got a second opinion. And BOY did that second opinion CHANGE MY LIFE FOREVER. So let me set the storyline here for you…….

You probably at one point have gotten a nice relaxing massage. Cue the herbal incense, nice oily lotion on your back, and soothing voice of the message therapist. Before you know it your eyes start getting heavy, your body unwinds, and you drift away to a tropical paradise……

Now- Throw that out the window.

That’s right. As much as I love relaxing massages, there is a MUCH MORE effective type of massage for people who workout or who are recovering from injuries/surgeries that are causing pain.

The massage technique is called Active Release Technique (ART). The therapist that has been administering this technique on my hip is Todd Norris. He is a licensed message therapist (LMT), and a medical massage practitioner (MMP).

Todd, who works at Titus Sports Chiropractic in Savannah, Georgia describes ART as “A patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.”

But let’s be honest here. When you go into a session of ART, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows, but it will be after. Todd puts hard pressure on certain muscles, while moving the body part through a range of motion…and at times it can be painful. You may even pull a Steve Carell in The 40-year Old Virgin.

On a positive note, you can get a good ART session in only 30 minutes. and I promise you when you walk out of there, any pain or stiffness you had will be gone if not ten times better, and TRUST ME when I say you feel so much better after the session, that you will be back for more. Even more so than a regular massage.

Todd says, “Every ART session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. I use my hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension/pressure with very specific patient movements.”

Make that over 500 specific moves. And just like I preach personalized and individualized fitness programs, ART does not take a cookie cutter approach.
